Way to go, man! – May 4th, 2002

If this is your first visit to the “Official Nancy Cartwright Website,” as a certain 10-year-old-spiky-headed-miscreant would say, “Way to go, man!” And if this site is one of your “Favorites,” there has been a LOT going on since last month, so read on!

One of the coolest things about being a “celebrity” is that I get invited to attend and sometimes participate in charity auctions and fund-raisers.

Such was the case several weeks ago when I got together with about 2,000 people at the Santa Monica airport in one of the hangars for the Annual Wine Tasting Auction and Fund-Raiser for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This fund-raiser is one of my favorites. There were mobs of people with a smattering of other celebrities supporting the cause, including Chris Masterson (Malcolm in the Middle) and Laura Prepon (That 70s Show). But the highlight of the evening went to Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond) during the live auction segment. What a talent! What a showman! What a hoot!

Brad was raffling off a visit for four to the set of his show, which included meeting the cast, watching a rehearsal and having lunch with the man himself and, of course, Ray Romano. Very generous gift of their time from Brad and Ray I might add. As the bidding started, Brad came up on stage and warmed everyone up, really getting the audience involved. Very quickly, the bidding settled down to two groups. One party was a man and his wife and the other party was a group of 4 women, who were determined to have lunch with Brad and Ray. The opening bid was $2,000. The women countered at $3,000. Then back and forth they went, the two parties, from $3K to 4K to 5K to 8! Then 10K to 12K to 15, 16, 17, 18…and then all the way up to $20,000! And Brad (this is where he was the highlight of the evening!) ended up granting BOTH parties separate visits to the set at $20,000 each, making the foundation a quick $40,000 in less than 15 minutes! Way to go, Brad!

“When somebody does something good, applaud! Then you will make two people happy.”
