On the evening of June 21, Nancy Cartwright and her son Jack had the enormous pleasure of reading a story together before a live audience. This was a performance of the L. Ron Hubbard Pulp Fiction Adventures Theater. They read Mr. Hubbard’s story Mr. Luck. Bringing this exciting adventure tale to life was Jack’s first work as a live reader. It was a wonderful event and mother and son really worked well together, reading this classic tale in the style of the old radio dramas.

The performances of these classic stories can be enjoyed most Saturdays at the Authors Services building, 7051 Hollywood Blvd. For more information, or to attend a reading, please call (323) 466-3310.

IT’S A BEACH! – 17. July, 2003

On Sunday, June 29th, I packed a couple beach towels, sunscreen, picnic goodies, water, and-oh-yes, my kids, Jack and Lucy, and headed to the Santa Monica beach. We were joining the Celebrity Centre’s “Way to Happiness Club” to do one of many beach clean-ups we do annually.

Using the book The Way to Happiness by humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, this non-profit organization uses one of the 21 precepts to make this world a better place. The beach clean-up was demonstrating “Safeguard and Improve Your Environment.” There was an incredible turnout of about 35 kids. We were all given plastic trash bags and rubber gloves (for the gunk–yuck!) and proceeded to comb the beach for litter and trash.

This event was run by Rob Hoover who tosses in surfing lessons for anyone helping out! Jack and Lucy learned to “catch a wave” and “hang ten,” while Mom preferred to stay on shore. (Hey, somebody has to guard the brownies!)

The benefit World Premiere of “RUGRATS GO WILD” was held Sunday June 1st at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. Many celebrity cast members and their own (But some of them grown) “rugrats” walked the red carpet. Nancy, who voices Chuckie Finster, attended with her two kids, Lucy and Jack. Voice-director, Charlie Adler and actors Michael Bell (Chas Finster), Jodi Carlisle (Marianne Thornberry), Cree Summer (Susie Carmichael), Jack Riley (Stu Pickles) and Kath Souci (Phil, Lil and Betty DeVille) were also in attendance. The Dome was packed to the rafters with kids of all sizes and ages. Everyone got a program, as much popcorn and soda as he/she could carry, and the movie began! The cast members sat together with their respective families, and given the amount of laughter and whoops and hollers from that “peanut gallery”, the movie was a big hit. Immediately following the screening, Nancy and her family made their way down Sunset Blvd. to the party sponsored by Klasky-Csupo, the animation studio that produced the film. The parking lot was transformed into a jungle with all sorts of games, prizes, dancing, food, fun and Bruce Willis. (Who played Spike, the dog!) When asked how she responds to parents that don’t approve of Bart, Nancy quipped. “There are actually a few people out there who refuse to watch ‘The Simpsons’! And when given the opportunity, I have no problem introducing them to ‘Chuckie’ You should see the look on their kids’ face! Priceless. The mild humor is perfect for any little guy and his parents to enjoy.”

Rufus by the Bay – 20. May, 2003

rufusROME, ITALY—Walt Disney Television’s hit series “Kim Possible” scored two top prizes at Italy’s Cartoons on the Bay festival. “Kim Possible,” in which a teenage girl leads a double life as an action hero, was awarded the Pulcinella prizes for Best Overall Program and Best Television Series for Kids. The Pulcinella prize is an international award given annually by the festival to recognize excellence in television animation programs. The Cartoons on the Bay website describes its choice for Best Overall Program as: “Lively pacing, funny dialogue and an inventive script, coupled with a contemporary visual style…”

With its unique combination of comedy and action, Kim Possible is that highly unusual series that has equal appeal for both boys and girls. Nancy was very excited to hear that the show had won its first of, which she is sure, many awards.

13th ANNUAL TEAM AWARDS – 20. May, 2003

nance5-20-03The highly entertaining Thirteenth Annual TEAM (Tobacco Education Awareness Message) Awards were held the evening of March 26th at the Wadsworth Theater in Brentwood, California. Produced by AnimAction Inc., the competition featured animated anti-smoking public service announcements that were created by student teams from 33 Los Angeles Unified School District Middle Schools.

Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpson and Chuckie on Rugrats) led an elite group of voice talent as presenters at the evening’s event. When Ms. Cartwright was asked about why she supports this group she replied; “This is a group that is so dedicated and they have such a great purpose to keep kids from ever starting to smoke, and what is so amazing is the creative way of getting their message out to kids—using animation.”

The high-tech event was hosted by comedian Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, who demonstrated the extensive merchandising of his show by pulling a pair of SpongeBob boxers out of his pants. Kenny also voices Wayne on The Cramp Twins. Others presenters included Jason Marsden (Tino on The Weekenders, Max on House of Mouse), Grey Delisle (Daphne on What’s New Scooby-Doo?) and Kevin Michael Richardson, (Barney Rubble, Lilo & Stitch).
