Oxford Union – 22. June, 2005

Nancy with Oxford students.

On May 30th, Nancy had the pleasure of addressing the students of Oxford University in their venerable Union Hall. The august edifice rang with laughter as the voices of Bart, Nelson and Ralph reverberated off the stoic walls. Nancy told tales of being the voice behind Bart and entertained the eager students for over an hour.

One wonders if the ghost of Winston Churchill was lingering about and whether he is now a Simpsons fan.

LA Film Festival Family Day Celebration – 22. June, 2005

Come join Nancy and Happy House volunteers at the Santa Monica Pier on June 25th for an all-day celebration of family. Nancy, one of many celebrities, will be reading a delightful children’s story on the main stage, and Happy House will have a booth set up for the entire day. Following the reading, kids will be interviewed by Nancy about how they feel about family day. They can also contribute to our “quilt project” by drawing a picture of what their family means to them.

Happy House volunteers will be handing out free The Way to Happiness booklets in the afternoon. In the evening, as the sky gets dark, the LA Film Festival will be showing a premiere of a new Disney family movie! What a great way to spend a Sunday, with your family! Come join us and have some fun in the sun!

See you there!

Nancy Floats On Roses – 22. June, 2005

It was a “flirty weather” kind of day on June 11th. Between dodging raindrops and putting on sunglasses, Nancy stood, propped at the front-end of a float promoting The Way to Happiness in the famous Rose Parade in Portland, Oregon. Attended by a record-breaking 450,000 people, folks from all around the state and even tens of thousands flying in to witness the spectacular event, the parade of marching bands, Rose princesses and floats by the dozens entertained folks for more than 3 hours. A “junior version” of Pasadena’s famous annual event, the Portland Rose Parade’s floats are all made of natural substances. It was a spectacle not-to-be-missed!

The Audie Awards – 22. June, 2005

On June 3rd, Nancy joined hundreds of audio-book fans at the Tavern on the Green in New York’s Central Park for the annual Audie Awards. These awards honor those who read, write, produce, design and distribute audio books to a fast-growing public.

The black-tie event was jam-packed with elegantly dressed industry insiders. Nancy sends a big congratulations to all the nominees and winners and while she didn’t capture the award in her category, she was honored to be included with Jon Stewart, George Carlin and 3-time-winner David Sedaris.

Craig Black and the entire team from Blackstone Audiobooks, publishers of the audio version of My Life as a 10-Year-Old Boy, treated Nancy to an extraordinary evening she will never forget.

Many thanks go out to Peter Kjenaas (producer/director), Jared Bentley (Sound Editing), Geoff Levin (Musical Score) and Joey Lewis (Jacket Design).

Happy House in the Mountains – 23. May, 2005

On April 30th Happy House, Nancy’s non-profit organization co-founded with Rose Goss, delivered a stellar seminar to an enthusiastic group at the Community Center in Frazier Park, CA. Nancy and Rose were the key speakers, delivering the free 90-minute seminar on “Building Better Families–One Family at a Time” to about 70 people from the Frazier Park community.

With humor and poignant personal stories, their presentation used the common sense precepts from The Way to Happiness by L. Ron Hubbard to give the group tools to handle problems in communication, observation and how to create a saner home environment.

Kicking off the afternoon were the Kids on Stage for a Better World. These enthusiastic and highly-skilled performers danced and sang to uplifting contemporary music and really got the day off on the right foot.

Teresa Legault of Focus Central, a non-profit arts group in Frazier Park, was instrumental in setting up the entire event as she lent her talents and producer expertise to pull off the event without a hitch.
