Over a year ago, the University College of Dublin Law Society invited Nancy over to Ireland to participate in their comedy debate and have a little chat with the Society students.
While she couldn’t attend at that time, they kept at it and a year later had another university, National University of Ireland at Galway, Literary and Debating Society, join them in bringing Nancy over for a little bi-coastal trip to the island.
Nancy and her Exec Asst. Janelle made the journey over “the pond” for a fun-filled, if brief, excursion with some wonderful students.
Both the UCD Law Society and the NUIG Lit & Deb Society were incredibly gracious hosts, showing their guests around the sites, taking in some authentic Irish music, the train to the Irish National Stud in Kildare and even making the ferry trip out to the island of Inisheer off the western coast, all in-between college appearances.
During her stay in Dublin, Nancy also made an appearance on the Late Late show with Pat Kenny, the most watched show in Ireland, which led to a number of very friendly but unforeseen recognitions on the street for the rest of the week!
Overall it was a great time with some very bright and hospitable students who taught us that traditional Irish pubs do still exist, sing-alongs are not uncommon, the Claddagh ring originates in Galway, and “Irish blokes don’t dance.”
Thanks to our lovely hosts and everyone we met along the way.
