Nancy Goes Irish For St. Paddy’s Day

Nancy with Simpsons floats in Ireland

Nancy was invited to join Jim Brooks and Al Jean, executive producers of The Simpsons to visit Dublin, Ireland for St. Patrick’s Day.  The occasion was the first time that  a season of the show debuted in a country outside the U.S. The show was themed around Grandpa wanting to go back to his Irish routes and back to the pub he remembers so well.

It was Nancy’s third trip to Dublin so she was quite familiar with the beautiful scenery, lovely people and historical and topographical landmarks. But no one could have expected the hooplah over their native holiday! Offices and stores were closed, and there was a national four day celebration that took people from Friday through Tuesday, St. Patrick’s Day.

There were two screenings of the episode, the first during the day for a crowd of media and children from a local hospital in an architectural award winning theater, and the second that evening at a famous local pub. Both were received with uproarious laughter and applause. She found time, however, to visit the “Bodies” exhibit at a local museum. Quite interesting….

On the second day, St. Paddy’s Day, she, Al and Jim were special featured guests at the Parade. A Simpson’s float led the parade, which was very unique. It featured bands and performers from all over the world including several high school marching bands from the U.S. The costumes were amazing, and the displays were very different from the elaborate professionally created floats we have in this country. They had a home grown feeling with dancers, clowns, and marching bands with a variety of music and performances reflecting their respective country’s cultures from as far away as Africa and Germany.

That night was exciting. Nancy was a presenter at the Meteor Awards, their nationally televised show comparable to our MTV Awards. She looked outstanding in a new peach colored floor-length gown and her hair in major curls. And the next morning was another 15 hour travel day. But was it worth it? “Absolutely!,” said Nancy. In fact, FOX has asked her to make other trips on their behalf, so keep your eyes open for notices of where she’ll be next….
