Children’s Day 2009 Raffle Winner – 9. December, 2009

Happy House recently had the privilege of delivering a basket full of goodies to Aaron Morales. The four-year-old, pictured here with his mother Sonia, won the basket at Children’s Day last weekend at Woodley Park. It was raffled off at the Good Choices booth and all were welcome to enter. The winner was ecstatic to learn that he had won and accepted his prize with joy. The Children Have Their Day – 30. November, 2009

Children's Day 2009On November 21st in Woodley Park, located in the San Fernando Valley, the anti-gang coalition of the Los Angeles Police Department and associated agencies, put on their 2nd annual Children’s Day, a Salute to Kids.   www.childrensday2009.com

The all-day event is about kids and for kids with activities to keep the day fun and entertaining as well as over a hundred resource booths where local non-profit organizations displayed their programs designed to provide services for children and families. (more…)

The Way to Happiness Sets Sail! – 25. March, 2009

btchristen-100On Sunday March 8, the newest ship in the Outdoors Club’s The Way to Happiness fleet was christened at Burton Chace Park in Marina Del Rey.

Nancy joined dozens of Outdoors Club members along with Happy House volunteers for a sunny day of hot dogs and chips for the families and anchovy tossing for the sea gulls.   At 2:00 PM, before turning the festivities over to Nancy, Ship Captain Bob Sullivan read from the ship’s log giving the history of the donation and renovation of the boat and then he named Nancy an honorary captain. Changing a Country at War – 9. February, 2009

Congo2In November 2008, artists Jimmy Collins and Sleven Rucci-Airo went to the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo to hand-deliver copies of the non-religious common-sense moral guide The Way to Happiness.

Jimmy and Sleven in the CongoConfronting a hostile environment full of heavily-armed soldiers, they managed to pull together a group of volunteers who helped them penetrate the front lines of the conflict and get the book into the hands of thousands of soldiers on both sides.  The team succeeded in gaining the support of key officials from both armies, including General Laurent Nkunda, commander of the rebel CNDP Army. This unprecedented and rare meeting was documented to include his inspired agreement to the precepts in the book. (more…)
