The gala opening of the Valley Performing Arts Center at CSUN Saturday, January 29th, 2011 was attended by some very familiar faces. Included were Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Devonshire Police Commander Michael Moore and his beautiful wife Cindy, City Councilman Greig Smith, City Controller Wendy Greuel, Marion Ross, Dave Koz, Calista Flockhart, Benjamin Bratt, Steven Weber, Noah Wyle, Beau Bridges, Cheech Marin, Doris Roberts, Keith David, Jane Kaczmarek and, of course, Nancy Cartwright (who had the honor of introducing CSUN President Jolene Koester).

The performances were amazing. David Koz played “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” Davis Gaines sang a breathtaking rendition of “Music of the Night,” from the famed musical The Phantom of the Opera, and Arturo Sandoval brought the house down with his trumpet.

Held in a stunning new building shrouded in windows, it was a wonderful way to introduce what will no doubt be the epicenter for culture in the North Valley for years to come.
