One of my dreams is to be a contestant on Dancing With The Stars. You shoulda seen my face last Friday…on stage…surrounded by hundreds of people…in my glorious ballroom gown…done up like a showgirl on opening night!!

Okay, so it wasn’t the hit ABC television show, but rather a fundraiser for The Valley Cultural Center! Dancing with our Valley Stars. I competed with 4 other community leaders of the San Fernando Valley to raise funds for this amazing program that provides movies in the park, music, dance and visual arts programs for kids and seniors alike.

I honestly didn’t care if I took home first prize! I had so much darn fun taking Rumba lessons with Joel Rieck. He is, one of the great instructors (and my dance partner) at the Arthur Murray Dance studio in Woodland Hills. We’ve been rehearsing for a couple times a week for the past 2 months and when all was said and done, we walked off with 2nd Runner Up!  Jen Svejda truly was magnificent and earned her first place trophy! Congrats to her and Matthew Obergfall, Joel Pollack and Evelin Martinez, who also “wow’d” the public with their performances.

Well over five-hundred guests decked out in their finest, cheered for their favorites and enjoyed a top-notch meal, some lively speeches and great dancing. The Arthur Murray Dancers provided the training and pro-partner talent and they really helped us amateurs feel safe, secure and ready to hoof it! I did a Rumba to a Michael Buble song and other contestants danced waltz, a cha cha cha and a tango. I’ll be doing much more dancing in my life after this super experience.

What better way to raise funds for the arts than to dance the night away! If you are interested in lessons, go to www.arthurmurraydanceschools.com in Woodland Hills to find out more! Cha Cha Cha!!!
