On Feb 20, 2015, at the Odyssey Banquet Hall in Mission Hills, the North Regional Valley Chamber of Commerce—with a new name, Northridge Chamber of Commerce—installed Nancy Cartwright in her 11th year as Honorary Mayor of the North San Fernando Valley, and she in turn saw to it that 13 Board members for 2015 took their oath as well!
Nancy gave an overview of the last 10 years—her “campaign promises” and how they turned out. She was forced to admit to causing the statewide drought by pledging to bring endless sunshine to the state but was able to balance this with her assertion that her “eat dessert first” promise was becoming a widely held health benefit. She ended off by reminding them that what small business does has a broad societal benefit, sustaining the lives of many, far beyond their doors.
Wayne Adelstein, President and CEO of the chamber ably emceed the event, which featured keynote speaker, Ken Phillips, President and CEO of the Valley Economic Council who spoke of the qualities of good leadership. Our good friend, Paul Eisenstadt was honored with Federal and State proclamations for his dedicated and effective work as Chairman of the Chamber, as well as his philanthropic work in the San Fernando Valley as a business owner and individual. The new Chairperson was announced and welcomed: Mark Freedman.
Nancy’s Fernando Awardee colleague and philanthropist/business exec extraordinaire, David Honda gave a beautiful acknowledgment to his friend, the late CK Tseng whose commitment to strengthening the business community and the entrepreneurial spirit as well as to volunteerism and public service distinguished him as a model for business people to emulate. NVRCC’s TK Tseng Leadership Award was awarded by last year’s recipient, Paul Davis to the AMAZING Mel Wilson for 4 decades of improving the lives of countless thousands of people in the Valley through his volunteer public service activities, and his business savvy leading the Pacoima Chamber of Commerce.
